I love the idea of an unwanted guest.
And sometimes those impromptu visits are the best.
We chat and laugh and cry and drink.
And we realize that we share the link
Of true and lasting friendship that has been blessed.

No need for fancy words or to be over-dressed.
No need to feel under any duress.
These talks are just like having a free shrink.
I love the idea…

When our time together ends, we like to protest.
Wanting to make sure all of our issues have been addressed
And, of course, that we’ve found that common link
To always and forever keep our friendship in sync.
Having that unwanted guest...

The Winter That Wasn't

Oh where, oh where can we get a snow view?
This winter in Baltimore has been a bust.
With meteorologists and their forecasts untrue,
Who can we possibly trust?

Do they not see what they do to us
Each time they hypothesize a storm?
The mention of snow and ice makes all of us cuss
As we sprint to the supermarket -- true to form.

Bread, milk, and toilet paper are on our long lists.
But as we sadly find that items are gone from the shelves,
It's certain we might plan a near caper,
Or wish for replenishment from Santa's elves.

We buy things we don't need,
And we don't buy things we do need.
All because they so shamelessly mislead.
Have they been to the store and seen the stampede?

Here's a plea for them to get it right.
It's not fair that they get it wrong though still get paid.
Stop giving the citizens of Baltimore such a fright.
One day we will wise up and not be so easily swayed.

You are a most ugly creature.
There is no quality about you that is redeeming.
A lesson you will soon learn from this teacher.
After which, instead of chirping you might be screaming.

Your back is shiny; your antennae are pointy,
With legs that look like inverted Vs.
You think you're so smart and perhaps home-free
As you forage your way through grass and trees.

What you fail to realize and presume
Is that I'm coming after you.
Be it with my shoe, electric zapper, or a broom--
Oh, yes!  This will be quite the coup.

Do your compound eyes help you see
The broom as its lifted high above?
With squeals by your killer of 'whoopee,'
It sails through the air like the flight of a dove.

Cricket season is high, but your death came with a thump.
I no longer hear your incessant chirping peep.
Finally, you will no longer be able to jump,
And I will be able to get my beauty sleep.
